Seuss Celebration 2016

We have an annual Dr. Seuss Celebration in March at all of our branches. Here's a quick write-up of what we did at my branch this year. We also had a reading corner and gave out cookies while the families listened to Seuss stories. We also had a page do face-painting (cat's nose and whiskers) but I don't have a picture of that.

Lorax Craft:
We made Lorax puppets using straws, pipe cleaners, pom poms, and googly eyes. The Lorax buddies are Ellison pumpkin cutouts. I cut the second arm out of each one by using a different copy and lining it up and cutting it (no tracing). It took about an hour to do 100 while I was on the desk (so I was answering phone calls and helping people in between cutting.) The idea for this craft came from here, although we changed it from a finger puppet to a stick puppet. The easiest way to stick all the parts on was double-stick tape although we tried glue sticks, and glue dots.

Cat in the Hat bowling:Used red solo cups as bowling pins and added white duct tape for the stripes. I found this idea on a Google image search and I believe their version was painted. The staff member who did this had trouble with the duct tape so if we were to do it again, we'd probably paint the stripes. Used a foam bowling ball.

Seuss Hats:
Used a pattern we had on hand and bingo dot markers. Used double-stick tape to attach and close the headband. Easy.
